5 Easy Steps
Over the years, I have had many opportunities to host a Geography Fair in our homeschool community. The organization process is minimal, with participating families doing the bulk of the work.

Select a Date
Whether a weekday night or weekend afternoon, select a date that will be suitable for many families. This will not only increase the amount of participation you have, but will increase the number of guests available to visit the displays. Saturday afternoons always worked well for us.

Secure a Location
If meeting in an outdoor location, consider the temperature when determining the time of day to host your Geography Fair. Indoor locations offer much more flexibility. Options may include a home, church, school, or community center.
Select a Country to Study
Have families select the country they would like to study. Each family will be responsible for making and presenting an interactive exhibit to display at the Geography Fair. Countries such as Ecuador, Iceland, Germany, Chile, and England are a sampling of countries that were on display at this particular Fair.
You may choose to focus on any country around the world, or focus on a certain continent of countries.

Advertise the Event
Consider advertising your event via social media groups, with printed flyers, and via word of mouth.

Set Up
Set up necessary items, such as tables and chairs. While many display tables may include snacks and drinks, be sure to have water available for guests.

Extra Idea: Passport Book
Providing each family with a passport book is always a fun idea! Children enjoy adding the appropriate flag sticker to their passport as they visit each country’s display.
Conclusion
Geography Fairs are the perfect way to increase your family’s knowledge of geography and engage with others in the community. This 5-Step formula makes it easy to host other types of fairs as well. A few ideas include an Art Fair, History Fair, Science Fair, or Family History Fair. With all these options, there is so much fun and learning to be had. So what are you waiting for? Let the fun begin!
