Build-A-House is a favorite craft to make with young children. Using brown paper lunch bags, the supplies are minimal for an hour’s worth of fun.
Getting Started
First, to begin the activity, I recommend reading one of the following books, or a similar house-themed book:

The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton
Farmhouse by Sophie Blackall
Windows by Julia Denos
Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Supplies
Next, after reading the story, spread out the supplies, and let the children create their houses.
I like to create my own house right alongside the children to show them the basic steps, but I always allow for the children’s imaginations to lead the way as they make their own unique creations.
LIST OF SUPPLIES
Tape
Newspaper to stuff inside the lunch bags to create the shape of the house

Instructions
- Fill each brown paper bag with scrunched up newspaper. Secure the bottom of the bag with tape.
- Glue or tape the bag onto a piece of construction paper.
- Cut and paste onto the house a roof, door, window and chimney.
- Add landscaping features, such as roads, gardens, stepping stones, and trees.

Conclusion
While this makes a fun family project, it is also fun to do with friends, so consider building houses at your next playdate.
Have fun creating!
