Learn how to host a Renaissance Celebration by following these basic guidelines. Renaissance Celebrations create memories that will last a lifetime.
Renaissance Celebration Showcase
What do you do to bring your learning to life?
Our family finishes off each homeschooling year with a celebration to showcase what we learned during the year. This year, our focus was the Renaissance period in history. We invited family, friends, and neighbors to join us for a fun and engaging evening.
The planning that goes into hosting a celebration is quite minimal, and the children (depending on their age) can be put in charge of most of it.
Basic Guidelines
- Select date and time of event
- Select location for event
- Make a guest list
- Send out invitations
- Make food assignments
- Gather projects to display
- Find costumes
- Plan a few hands-on activities
- Decorate with theme decorations
- Make the food

Celebration Details
Our guests dressed up as queens and kings, princesses and knights and jesters. In addition, I (mom) dressed up as a peasant, and dad, as Martin Luther.
Over the course of two hours, we:
- made masquerade masks and potpourri bags
- performed skits
- made art projects
- listened to Renaissance music
- had “shoppes” that were open for business, where shoppers could use their “money” from the bank to purchase Renaissance clothing, shoes, jewelry, etc.
- visited with friends, old and new

Display Table
We displayed many of the hands-on, interactive projects we created over the past year, including information about dissections, reformers, inventors, music, royalty, timeline figures, and so much more. Most of these hands-on projects came directly from Raiders of the Renaissance Minds: An EPIC Adventure and Project Passport: The Renaissance and Reformation. These unit study project books make it easy to pull together a year-long curriculum and host a celebration at the end of the year.

Food
One of the highlights of the evening is the Renaissance period food. Tasting new and unfamiliar recipes can be quite the adventure! Guests may sign up to bring a certain food item through Sign Up Genius, or another tool. Recipes can be found online or in cookbooks like this.
Placing typed or hand-written descriptions of each food item for the guests to read can be both helpful and entertaining.

Conclusion
As always, our Renaissance Celebration was a huge hit with friends and family. Celebrations like these promote a love for learning in our children (and guests!), and encourage them to do their best work.
If you’re looking for a unique and memorable event to host in your home, I highly recommend hosting a Renaissance (or Science, History, Art, etc.) Celebration. The possibilities truly are endless.
