Thirty years ago, I created my first vision board. Filled with visuals of what I envisioned in my future, it became a springboard for my success. The carefully-chosen goals were stepping stones that helped me avoid the stumbling blocks of life as I worked to make my vision a reality.

Will We Be Prepared?
Fifteen years later, I created a new vision board–one that, I trusted, would propel me even further down the path of happiness and success, towards my own personal happily ever after.
In the scriptures, we read of prophets of old, like Lehi, and his contemporary, Jeremiah, who were visionary men, having had revealed to them details about future events. Knowing what lie ahead in the future helped to guide them on their journey through life.
Today, thanks to ancient and modern-day prophets, we have had revealed to us events that lie in our future, namely, the greatest manifestations of the Savior’s power that the world has ever seen, and the return of the Savior, Himself, to the world.
Will we be prepared to witness and participate in these events?
Do we have a vision for our lives that will help prepare us for the extraordinary days that lie ahead?
What do we want our homes to look like when the Savior appears? Will our relationships with our family members be healthy and happy? How will we be spending our free time? What of our choice of music, art, and entertainment? What needs to change for Christ to feel welcome in our homes?
Most importantly, what will be the state of our hearts? Will we recognize Christ when He comes? Will we be familiar with His Atonement, having relied on it daily on our path towards perfection? Will we have any regrets?
Do our wards (church congregations) have vision?
What will our churches look like at the time of these great manifestations and the return of Christ? Will we be attending church each week, eager to focus on our Savior, Jesus Christ, and uplift those around us? Will our hymns be sung with heart-felt adoration? Will we be used to applying Gospel-principles to our lives every day of the week, and not just on Sunday? In what specific ways will we be involved in the gathering of Israel? Will our ministering efforts have improved? Will we have become one?
The Best and Worst of Times
It’s easy to get caught up in life-as-we-know-it, assuming that things will continue the way they always have.
But they won’t.
Life, even now, is drastically changing. In the not-too-distant future, according to prophetic vision, our world will be in a state of upheaval AND we will witness the greatest events the world has ever known.
In short, we will be living in both the best of times and the worst of times.
What our future will look like, as individuals, families, and church communities, will be determined by the path we choose to walk today. Our destination will be determined by our vision.
We know how the story in history will end. For God’s chosen people, all will be well.
We can choose to be chosen.
Create A Vision
Creating a step-by-step vision for our lives, and our wards, will ensure that our personal story, too, will have a happy ending.
Yes, God needs a visionary people.
“In the Book of Mormon, the people converted by the sons of Mosiah had vision. “Their zeal towards God likely reflects an eagerness to please God and worship Him with fervor and passion. Their zeal towards men suggests an ardent interest in helping and serving others. Being perfectly upright and honest in all things suggests that they held their covenants firmly and did not rationalize their commitments to God or man. We further know that they taught their children the gospel in their homes. We know that they buried their weapons of war, distancing themselves from temptations. They must have frequently assessed the condition of their spiritually changed hearts. They did not simply assume that all was well. By figuratively examining their changed hearts, they could identify any early hardening or rejection and treat it.” – Elder Dale G. Renlund
In what specific ways might we create more vision in our personal lives, in our wards, in our communities, as we prepare for the great and terrible days that lie ahead?
