Driving home from work last week, I experienced increasing anxiety as I considered the current state of the world. Then, out of nowhere, this quote by President Russell M. Nelson came to mind and, I’m not kidding, I smiled all the way home.
Our world that is increasing in darkness is also increasing in light.
While many are walking away from God, many are moving towards Him.
While many are choosing to submit to sin, many are leaving their sin behind them.
While many are choosing to be angry, many are deciding to forgive.
While many continue to devalue the life of the unborn, many are choosing life.
While many are giving up, many are choosing to have hope.
While many spend their time pleasing themselves, others are focused on doing what is pleasing to God.
How do I know this? Because I am part of these conversations that take place online and in-person.
I was part of the conversation where, under tremendous pressure from her boyfriend to abort the baby, a young, single mother ultimately chose life for her baby.
I have witnessed individuals caught up in sin reach out to Jesus, and others, for support.
I have witnessed the discouraged find hope.
I have witnessed hundreds of individuals search for a church to attend.
Recently, one mother shared her desire to do more than just “attend church” with her family. She wants Jesus to be the center of her family’s life. The challenge is getting the husband and children on board. Many offered suggestions on how to proceed. I enjoyed reading through the comments. Perhaps you’ll enjoy reading some of the suggestions, too:
* Set the example; show them change so they desire to follow in your footsteps. Pray. Spend more time in God’s Word.
* Be an example of the believers in word and in deed.
* Pray for your husband, asking God to put in your husband’s heart a desire to be a strong spiritual leader for your family
* Pray for your children
* Talk about history and other topics in light of what the Bible has to say about it
* Allow your faith to SHINE
* Share with your family how Jesus blesses you on a daily basis
* Eliminate ungodly influences from your life: music, tv, books, unforgiving heart, etc.
* Incorporate Jesus in your daily conversations and actions. Some suggestions: have simple morning devotionals, post a scripture to memorize, play Christian music at home and in the car, read Christian books, learn a hymn, hang Christian artwork in the home
The truth is, our world is overflowing with people who have a heart for Jesus.
When it comes right down to it, Jesus is already performing some of His mightiest works and miracles in my life, and in the hearts and lives of individuals everywhere.
Once again, I find myself smiling.
