Daniel 12: 4 tells us that in the end times “many shall run to and fro” (Yep–that’s me!), “and knowledge shall be increased”.

Ahh…knowledge. ❤️

I love to learn.

In fact, gaining knowledge is one of my favorite things to do. Books and classes, podcasts and conversations, the internet and the library, study and meditation, prayer and personal revelation–the resources available for gaining knowledge are endless!

Lately, I’ve been contemplating the difference between gaining knowledge and gaining wisdom.

How much of my learning, I wonder, is leading to wisdom?

Are there areas in which I need to redirect my efforts so that gaining wisdom becomes more important than simply gaining bits of fact-based knowledge?

Am I “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth”? (2 Tim. 3:7.)

“For while we trifle

the light sand steals on,

leaving the hour-glass empty.

So thy life glideth away.

Stamp wisdom on its hours.”

– Lydia Howard Sigourn

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

– Psalm 90:12

“The earth is groaning under corruption, oppression, tyranny, and bloodshed; and God is coming out of His hiding place, as He said He would do, to vex the nations of the earth. Daniel in his vision, saw convulsion upon convulsion; he ‘beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of Days did sit;’ and one was brought before him like unto the Son of Man; and all nations, kindred, tongues, and peoples, did serve and obey Him. It is for us to be righteous, that we may be wise and understand; for none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand, and they that turn many to righteousness shall shine as the stars for ever and ever.” Joseph Smith (Teachings 25)

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” – Matthew 10:16

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all they that do his commandments.” – Psalm 111:10

Finally, these words from Daniel:

“…they that be wise shall shine as the brightest of the firmament.” (Daniel 12:3)
